A quick, healthy, and customizable homemade version of the classic Lunchable, made with real ingredients like deli turkey, cheddar cheese, whole-wheat crackers, and fresh fruit. Perfect for school lunches, busy afternoons, or a satisfying snack that comes together in under 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 slices deli turkey breast (about 46 ounces total), preferably oven-roasted or honey-roasted
  • 23 ounces cheddar cheese, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup whole-wheat crackers (such as Wheat Thins, Triscuit Minis, or Annie’s Whole Wheat Bunnies)
  • 1/2 cup red grapes, washed and left whole or halved
  • Optional: small handful of almonds or walnuts
  • Optional: a few dark chocolate chips
  • Optional: small container of mustard or hummus for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prep the turkey: Lay the slices of deli turkey flat on a cutting board. If large, cut into bite-sized pieces (about 2-inch squares or strips). Optionally, use small cookie cutters to cut into fun shapes.
  2. Cube the cheese: Cut the block of cheddar into small cubes, about 1/2 inch on each side. Keep cheese cold until ready to cut.
  3. Wash and prep the fruit: Rinse grapes thoroughly and pat dry. Leave whole if small, or halve lengthwise if large. For other fruits, prepare as needed.
  4. Count out the crackers: Open the box and count out about 10-12 crackers per serving.
  5. Assemble the bento box: Place crackers in the largest compartment. In the second compartment, arrange turkey slices (folded or rolled). In the third compartment, add cheese cubes. Add grapes or other fruit in the remaining space, keeping them away from crackers to avoid sogginess.
  6. Add optional extras: Include nuts, chocolate chips, or a small container of dip if desired.
  7. Close and refrigerate: Snap the lid on the bento box and store in the fridge until ready to eat. For packed lunches, use an ice pack in an insulated lunch bag.

Notes

Keep crackers separate until serving to prevent sogginess. Dry fruit thoroughly after washing. For meal prep, cube cheese and wash fruit in advance. Store assembled Lunchable in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but add crackers just before serving. Not recommended for freezing.
