Ingredients

Scale
  • Microwave popcorn bags (plain or lightly salted)
  • 12 tablespoons oil or melted butter (olive oil, melted butter, or avocado oil)
  • Classic Cheddar seasoning mix: 2 tablespoons powdered cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Ranch Delight seasoning mix: 1 tablespoon dried parsley, 1 teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon dill, 1 teaspoon buttermilk powder (optional), pinch of salt
  • Sweet Cinnamon Sugar seasoning mix: 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, pinch of salt
  • Spicy Chipotle seasoning mix: 1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder, ½ teaspoon cumin, ½ teaspoon smoked paprika, pinch of cayenne
  • Everything Bagel seasoning mix: 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, 1 teaspoon dried minced garlic, 1 teaspoon dried minced onion, 1 teaspoon poppy seeds, pinch of sea salt
  • Herb & Lemon Zest seasoning mix: 1 teaspoon dried basil, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, zest of 1 lemon, pinch of black pepper

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn according to microwave instructions on the bag, about 2-3 minutes or until popping slows to 2 seconds between pops. Remove immediately to avoid burning.
  2. While popcorn pops, prepare each seasoning mix in small bowls using measuring spoons for accuracy.
  3. Transfer the popped popcorn into a large mixing bowl or divide into paper lunch bags for tossing.
  4. Drizzle 1-2 tablespoons of oil or melted butter over the popcorn and toss gently but thoroughly to coat every kernel.
  5. Divide the popcorn into small bowls or plates for each seasoning mix.
  6. Sprinkle your favorite seasoning mix over each portion. If using paper bags, add seasoning inside and shake vigorously for even coverage; if using bowls, gently toss with a spoon.
  7. Taste test and adjust seasoning if desired, adding more sparingly especially for salty or spicy mixes.
  8. Serve immediately for best crunch.

Notes

Use plain or lightly salted popcorn bags to allow seasoning to stick better. For dairy-free, substitute butter with olive or avocado oil and omit dairy powders. Freshly ground spices improve flavor. Avoid burning popcorn by listening for popping to slow. Store leftover popcorn in airtight containers and consume within 1-2 days for best freshness.
