These fun and festive mummy pigs in a blanket are a quick, easy Halloween appetizer made with crescent roll dough and little smokies. Perfect for parties, they come together in under 20 minutes and are always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 24 mini smoked sausages (little smokies)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Dijon mustard or yellow mustard, for eyes
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Open the can of crescent dough. Unroll it onto a cutting board. If using perforated triangles, press the seams together gently to form a single sheet.
  3. Cut the dough into strips. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough lengthwise into about 24 thin strips, roughly ½ inch wide.
  4. Pat the little smokies dry with a paper towel.
  5. Wrap each sausage: take one strip of dough and wrap it around a little smokie, leaving small gaps between the wraps. Do not wrap too tightly.
  6. Place the mummies on the baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.
  7. Brush with egg wash: beat the egg in a small bowl and brush a thin layer over each mummy.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the dough is golden brown and puffy.
  9. Let the mummies cool for about 2 minutes on the baking sheet. Then use a toothpick to dab a tiny dot of mustard on each one for eyes.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

Don’t overwork the dough. Leave gaps in the wrapping for the mummy effect. Use room temperature dough. Watch the oven closely as they can burn quickly. Make extra as they disappear fast.
