These easy smoked sausage football skewers with honey mustard are the perfect game day finger food. Smoky sausage gets a caramelized edge and a sticky, sweet-tangy glaze that disappears fast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound smoked sausage (preferably Johnsonville or Hillshire Farm)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1216 short wooden or metal skewers
  • 3 tablespoons honey (runny, mild honey like clover or orange blossom)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (preferably Grey Poupon)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Pinch of smoked paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If using a grill, preheat to medium-high heat. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Slice the smoked sausage into 1-inch thick rounds (about 12–14 pieces per pound).
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, and smoked paprika (if using). Taste and adjust honey or mustard to preference.
  4. Thread 3–4 sausage rounds onto each skewer, leaving a little space between each piece.
  5. Lightly brush or drizzle olive oil over the sausage pieces.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip each skewer using tongs.
  7. Brush the honey mustard glaze generously over the sausage pieces. Reserve a little extra for serving.
  8. Bake for another 5–7 minutes until the glaze is bubbly and the edges of the sausage are caramelized.
  9. Let the skewers rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

Soak wooden skewers in water for 10 minutes before baking to prevent burning. For extra dipping, double the honey mustard glaze ingredients. Let skewers rest for 2 minutes after cooking so the glaze sets properly.
