Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground turkey (93% lean recommended)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried parsley)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons whole wheat breadcrumbs (or almond flour for gluten-free option)
  • 2 large sweet potatoes (about 1 pound), peeled and cut into 1/4-inch thick fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Whole wheat or gluten-free burger buns (optional)
  • Leafy greens like arugula or baby spinach
  • Tomato slices
  • Avocado slices
  • Red onion rings
  • Pickles
  • Mustard, ketchup, or your favorite sauce
  • Optional: crumbled feta or cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425ยฐF (220ยฐC). Peel and cut sweet potatoes into 1/4-inch thick fries. Toss with olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well coated. Spread in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Bake fries for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp on edges. Watch closely near the end to avoid burning.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix gently until just combined.
  4. Divide mixture into 4-6 equal portions and shape each into a 3/4 inch thick patty with a slight indentation in the center.
  5. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Lightly oil if needed. Cook patties for 5-6 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 165ยฐF (74ยฐC) and juices run clear. Avoid pressing patties while cooking.
  6. While burgers and fries cook, prepare burger toppings and buns. Toast buns if desired.
  7. Serve burgers with preferred toppings and sauces alongside the crispy sweet potato fries.

Notes

Do not overmix the turkey mixture to keep patties tender. Indent patties in the center to prevent puffing. Bake fries in a single layer and flip once for best crispiness. Let burgers rest 3-5 minutes after cooking. Use fresh herbs and high-quality turkey for best flavor. Fries can be air fried for extra crispiness. Burgers can be grilled outdoors for smoky flavor.
