Watermelon Bourbon Smash - featured image

A quick and refreshing summer cocktail made with fresh watermelon juice, bourbon, lime, and mint. Perfect for backyard barbecues and hot days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cubed seedless watermelon
  • 2 ounces bourbon (e.g., Bulleit or Maker’s Mark)
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • 68 fresh mint leaves
  • ½ ounce honey or agave syrup (optional)
  • Ice (large cubes or crushed)

Instructions

  1. Juice the watermelon: Cube 2 cups of seedless watermelon, blend until smooth, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve to get about 1 cup of juice.
  2. Muddle the mint and lime: In a serving glass, add 6-8 mint leaves and ½ ounce fresh lime juice. Gently press with a muddler or the back of a spoon to release the mint oils.
  3. Add sweetener: If using, drizzle ½ ounce honey or agave into the glass and stir once.
  4. Pour in bourbon and watermelon juice: Add 2 ounces bourbon and 3 ounces fresh watermelon juice. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Fill with ice: Add a generous amount of ice to the glass.
  6. Stir again and garnish: Give one more gentle stir. Garnish with a sprig of mint (slap it first) and a small watermelon wedge or lime wheel.
  7. Taste and adjust: Adjust sweetness with more honey or acidity with extra lime as desired.

Notes

Don’t over-muddle the mint to avoid bitterness. For a crowd, make the watermelon-bourbon base ahead and muddle mint fresh per glass. Use seedless watermelon for best results.
