Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce (e.g., Frank’s RedHot Original)
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf (about 1 pound)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (for butter)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the top of the bread loaf, cutting at a slight angle inward to create a lid. Set lid aside.
  3. Use your hands or a small spoon to remove the soft bread from inside the loaf, leaving a 1/2-inch thick wall. Reserve the removed bread pieces.
  4. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons melted butter with 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder. Brush the inside of the hollowed bread bowl with half the mixture. Brush the reserved bread pieces and lid with the remaining butter.
  5. Place the hollowed bread bowl, lid, and bread pieces on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden and crisp. Remove and let cool slightly.
  6. In a medium mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, buffalo hot sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir until smooth.
  7. Fold in shredded chicken, 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese, and crumbled blue cheese (if using). Reserve remaining 1/4 cup cheddar for topping.
  8. Spoon the buffalo chicken mixture into the toasted bread bowl. Top with reserved 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until hot and bubbly, and cheese is melted and golden. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
  10. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with sliced green onions. Arrange toasted bread pieces and lid around the bowl on a serving platter. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and shred your own cheddar cheese. Toast the bread bowl twice to prevent sogginess. Let the dip rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow it to set slightly.
