These sticky honey garlic chicken wings are perfectly crispy, coated in a sweet and savory glaze, and ideal for game day. The double-bake method ensures a shatteringly crisp skin that stays crunchy even after tossing in the glossy, finger-licking sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lbs chicken wings (flats and drumettes)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • Optional: sliced green onions, toasted sesame seeds, flaky sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings very dry with paper towels. Place in a large bowl.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Sprinkle over wings and toss to coat evenly.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Arrange wings in a single layer on a wire rack set over a lined baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes.
  4. Flip wings and bake for another 20-25 minutes until deep golden brown and crispy.
  5. While wings bake, make the glaze: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Whisk and bring to a gentle simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. In a tiny bowl, mix cornstarch with cold water to form a slurry. Pour into simmering sauce while whisking constantly. Cook for 1 minute until thickened and glossy. Remove from heat.
  7. Transfer baked wings to a large bowl. Pour about half the glaze over wings and toss gently with tongs to coat.
  8. Return glazed wings to the wire rack in a single layer. Bake for another 5-7 minutes until caramelized.
  9. Remove from oven. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Let rest 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra crispy skin, pat wings very dry and use a wire rack. Do not skip the cornstarch slurry; it thickens the glaze so it clings to the wings. Watch the final bake carefully to prevent burning. Double the glaze if desired for extra dipping.
